The software for any public information centre service (PIAP, infokiosks, info-points) should not only be user-friendly, but it also must enable monitoring of the stall’s work and protection of the system from interference by unauthorized users.

In order to provide safe, fast, and easy access to different information resources, InfoChannel was designed. InfoChannel is a software suite adapted to the requirements of infokiosks operated by touch screens. This modern application was written for Windows XP in C# and MC++, and is based on open standards recognized all over the world (XML, Web Services). It allows for further development of the application, as well as for the possibility to integrate with existing or future information systems. Due to its modular structure, the system is easy to develop with components implemented according to an individual customer’s order.

InfoChannel

The basic application of the InfoChannel Suite is an Internet browser. It is fully compatible with the most popular program of this type, MS Internet Explorer Version 6.0. The program was designed and adjusted to co-operate with touch-sensitive devices, but it may also be installed in a computer and operated with a standard keyboard, mouse, or other input devices. Infochannel is an ideal solution whenever it is necessary to provide safe access to the Internet in public places. Thanks to the page-magnifying function in the browser, even the handicapped can use the Internet without any problem.

The E-mail module

The E-mail module, a touch system, enables e-mail messages to be sent directly from Internet pages, or from any place in the system, to one or more recipients. It contains four fields to be filled in with the following details: Sender, Receiver, Subject, Content.

Virtual Keyboard

The virtual keyboard is a program that simulates the work of a standard keyboard on a computer screen. It combines the functionality of the standard physical keyboard with the merits of an on-screen keyboard. A text may be input directly on the screen by a touch monitor, or indirectly with the help of input devices, such as a mouse, a trackball, etc. The virtual keyboard, replacing the standard keyboard physically connected to the computer, is suitable for use with touch devices, such as info-stalls, and can make computer use significantly easier for the disabled.
